Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope you have all had a wonderful summer and are now excited about the pupils all returning to school. We have got an exciting new topic to explore in the Wentworth class this term. In the Maafa project, your child will learn about Africa today and the ancient kingdoms that thrived on the continent for thousands of years. They will learn about the origins of the transatlantic slave trade in the 15th century and Britain’s involvement from the time of Elizabeth I when John Hawkins became the first British slave trader.

‘Journey Back to Freedom’ will be our text in English, supporting our overall development in reading and writing.  Maths will involve an emphasis on multiplication and division. As well as this, we will be completing work relating to the WJEC in mathematics and literacy including place value, money, poetry, and Shakespeare. Science lessons will have a physics focus as we learn about electrical circuits and components.  In ICT, will be developing the class’ ability to code and program using the application Scratch.

Regarding the task series, everyone has already settled into their new conductive groups very quickly.  The pupils have demonstrated positivity and motivation to work hard and push themselves alongside their peers.

As the seasons change, we look forward to celebrating Harvest and developing our understanding of different places of worship through our RE topic.

Any questions regarding the topic or what your child will be learning this term please feel free to contact the Wentworth team! New termly targets will be with you shortly.

Best wishes,

The Wentworth Team
