Balmoral had a surprise visitor, a local champion boxer. They all loved to ask questions and find out more about him and his sport. We got to see and explore his winning champion belts, they were amazing to see and very heavy. What a fantastic surprise!
We had a great day celebrating Halloween from carving pumpkins, baking pastries and even taking part in a Halloween Escape room, solving lots of games and puzzles.
Balmoral class have listened and explored the timeline of Queen Boudicca, planning and designing their own freeze frames. Balmoral carried out experiments to test the absorbency and durability of toilet roll. They learnt how to measure and record their own results, analysing them to find out which was the best.
Balmoral reenacted a visit to the Roman toilet. They explored how and why they were built that way, including discussing Roman inventions including aqueducts and sewer systems. They were surprised that people would go the the Roman toilets to socialise, and also by their lack of privacy.
Balmoral were pretty disgusted to discover that Romans did not have toilet roll. We explored further looking at things they may have used including: twigs, pebbles, leaves and moss. Balmoral have explored different Celt hill forts in the UK. We have looked at Ariel photographs and researched the features. We have made some amazing models to represent all the features working together. Fantastic!
